Welcome to Mayl at Lakeside!

Dear Parents, The merry month of May, our last month of school, is well under way! Check the calendar and you will see it is full of exciting events and activities. Last month our Annual “Writing on the Walls” event was the best ever. Guest Author Mel Boring was so impressed with our young authors that he just raved about their work to everyone who would listen. Our students and staff were just as impressed with him, too. He is now part of our Lakeside Family in spirit! Tons of thanks to our Writing Teacher, Linda Gray for all of her hard work to bring this very creative idea to benefit all of our family. A huge round of applause goes out to all of our Super Scientists (teachers, students, and parents) for the outstanding projects on display during “Writing on the Walls” evening. The projects done by the classes were interesting and so well done. The many parents who attended were very impressed with the fantastic displays and wall writings. Our conclusion: “Writing on the Walls” Science Fair was a sensational success!

Teacher Appreciation Week was also a great success and will continue all month. There could not be a better group of teachers to appreciate than here at Lakeside. They are a great team of dedicated, caring individuals! Also honored this month are the super support staff, which includes our fabulous paraprofessionals, office ladies and entire clerical staff, custodians, and cafeteria folks. Without their efforts our teachers could not do the wonderful job they do with our students! The PTA sponsored luncheon honoring all staff members was extraordinary! Once again our kind and generous parents presented us with a spectacular event. Our sincere gratitude goes out to each and every PTA member and especially to those whose efforts made the luncheon so special.

Speaking of efforts...we are extremely proud of FCAT Writing Scores with 97% of our students at level 3.5 or above. Out of all the Broward County Schools only four school had a higher percentage! It is great to be in the top 1 %!! What a great job our super 4th Grade writers did! Many thanks to the fabulous fourth grade teachers and to Linda Gray, our Writing Special Teacher. We know it all starts in Kindergarten and continues through 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. Without the efforts of all our teachers, the students would not be as well prepared, so tons of thanks to all of our teachers in K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade, too! We can’t wait to see how well our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students did on their FCATS.( scores will come later this month).

Please check the newsletter calendar for all of the events in the merry month of May. Our parents are a huge part of student success and an integral part of the Lakeside Learning Team. So mark the dates and we’ll end the year as we started it, together!

Have a “mah”velous May,

Marion Ann Fee
Proud Principal
